Chester Bennington was an American singer, songwriter, and occasional actor best known as the lead singer of Linkin Park, Grey Daze, Dead by Sunrise, and Stone Temple Pilots.

He rose to prominence as a vocalist following the worldwide commercial success of Linkin Park’s debut album Hybrid Theory (2000).

Chester Bennington was born on March 20, 1976, in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Chester Charles Bennington was his given name. Chester attended Centennial High School for his educational requirements. Later, he transferred to Greenway High School. Grey Daze, his first band, was formed at Greenway.

He then decided to transfer to Washington High School in order to graduate high school in 1994. In high school, he was physically bullied.

In an interview, he described being “knocked around like a rag doll at school” because he was “skinny and looked different.”

He became interested in music at a young age, citing Depeche Mode and Stone Temple Pilots as early influences, and aspired to be a member of Stone Temple Pilots. He worked at Burger King before embarking on a career as a professional musician.

Cause of Death

Chester Bennington died on July 20, 2017, at the age of 41. He killed himself by hanging at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California. Bennington returned home alone from a vacation in Arizona with his wife and family, claiming he had work to do.

On July 20, 2017, shortly before 9:00 a.m. PDT, his housekeeper discovered him dead at his home. His death was determined to be a suicide by hanging. Bennington did not leave a suicide note.

Chester Bennington was married to a  former Playboy model Talinda Ann Bentley in 2006 after dating her since the end of 2004. Tyler Lee Bennington, their first son, was born in March 2006.   • Then he went on to form Grey Daze, a Phoenix, Arizona-based post-grunge band. The band did record a demo in 1993, as well as two albums, Wake Me in 1994 and No Sun Today in 1997. He left the band in 1998.
  • Later, Jeff Blue, the vice president of artists and repertoire at Los Angeles’ Zomba Music, offered him an audition with future Linkin Park (then ‘Xero’) members.
  • Jeff Blue, now a Warner Bros. Records vice president of artists and repertoire, stepped in once more to help the band sign with Warner Bros. Records.
  • On October 24, 2000, Warner Bros. Records released Linkin Park’s debut album, “Hybrid Theory.”
