Cam’s mother was a former E4-rank, Army veteran. She stated she enlisted in the Army in 1990 and served four years while stationed at Fort Riley, Daegu, and South Korea. Later, Leslie left the army to take care of her oldest daughter, Shaniece Collins.
She was also a former basketball player who played multiple high school and middle school basketball matches in Virginia.

College Career
Cam Thomas’s mother, Leslie, shared that he excelled against bigger children and was passionate about basketball at a young age. Twice a day, Cam would practice the basics and shoot at the South Norfolk Community Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Thomas went to Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, and joined his first basketball team. Thomas won a contest by making 33 free throws in a row, at the age of seven.
For his junior season, Cam transferred to Oak Hill Academy, where he joined one of the most touted teams with Cole Anthony and Kofi Cockburn as a rookie.
